MARCH MADNESS, YOU SAY?

Basketball, shmasketball. The real madness lies in all the exciting things leading up to the release of Revenge of the Sith.

The Star Wars site's new design launched today, including a link (for special people like me) to the jumbo Quicktime version of the recent trailer. Butter, I'm telling you, it's butter.

Today, when I got home, I found an envelope full of goodies from the Official Star Wars Fan Club. Joyous day! Goodies included:
  • a personally signed letter from George Lucas (i.e., a photocopy of a letter written by his eloquent PR droid),

  • a certificate for 20% off of Star Wars venetian blinds,

  • another promotion for custom Star Wars window coverings,

  • an iron-on decal of Darth Vader (the iron is heating up as I type),

  • a little 3D Hasbro bust of Vader's helmet, made of paper,

  • a key to the sonyclassical.com site for an April 4 preview of John Williams' new score,

  • a $50 coupon for toys, toys, toys!,

  • an offer for 24 free Star Wars address labels (oh, yeah, baby!),

  • a kickass decal of Vader's helmet with Sith-y flames shooting out of it,

  • an RPG properties card for a Mon Calamari mercenary,

  • even better, a 1" figurine of the very same mercenary,

  • a big ol' cheesy poster for SW Lego sets, and

  • best of all, my very own 2005 OSWFC membership card.
Now, it's official. I'm a geek!

As you probably know, The Phantom Menace was re-released today on DVD. I bought a copy but noticed that it appears to be wrapped in an unofficial shrink-wrap. It's clad in the softer variety of shrink wrap and does not have any official seal or printing on it.

I bought this from (and yes I'm ashamed to admit this) Wal-Mart.

Do you or anyone else know what the story is? Is this an official copy? I haven't unwrapped it yet to see whether the discs are OK.

Yes, you should be ashamed to buy anything from W**-***t, which I can't even spell on my own site. You're lucky I can't edit your post.

I'm not sure if the copy you bought is official or not, but with W**-***t, you never know. You realize they subscribe to a specious program of "decency" editing, right? So, all those pornographic shots of Jake Lloyd's butt from the first cut won't be in your little W**-***t edition.

There's an easy way to check if the copy you bought is the real deal. Go to Amazon and see if they sell the same edition. If they do, Lucas approves. If they don't, W**-***t is in line for a serious litigious ass-whipping from the Jedi lawyers in Marin County.
