ANG LEE'S THE HULK
I can't think of a more bizarre mixture than Marvel Comics' The Hulk and Ang Lee, a terrific, class-act director who always takes on wildly different projects in an effort to stretch himself (The Wedding Banquet, The Ice Storm, Sense & Sensibility, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).
If you're not familiar with the Hulk, then go somewhere and get familiar with him. He's big and angry, a great metaphor for human rage and our capacity for unchecked destruction. That's the angle Lee is pursuing, although he understands well enough that teenage boys everywhere will kill to see a scorned freak wreak unstoppable havoc on his oppressors. Will it be a monster movie in the tragic Frankenstein vein? Lee has so many directorial tools at his disposal, I can't help but be fascinated by what he might accomplish.
Apparently we'll get to see a glimpse of the Hulk in action during a Superbowl spot. I've already seen the ad. So, nanner nanner boo boo.
